For international undergraduate and graduate students
Under the PEF umbrella is a perpetual student loan fund established by Ernest Wilkinson. It works much the same way and under the same principles as the Perpetual Education Fund, except that the recipient is a foreign student being educated in the United States. 70-80 students can be helped each year.
Eligible students
- International students with F1 visas
- Less than two years left towards their degree
- Eligible for a maximum of $10,000 to cover tuition, fees and books (no insurance - or other living expenses)
- May receive funding to cover two years of schooling: either junior-senior, or two years of graduate study
- Returned missionary
- Have indicated their intent to return to their country after completing their education
The loans require a signed note agreement. Small ( per month) payments are required while in school. The remaining balance is paid back to the Wilkinson Fund over 8 years with 3% annual interest.
Students should read Elder Carmack's "Perpetual Education Fund" article in the January 2004 Ensign (p. 36).
